This survey reports the relationship between physicians, PPOs and injured workers, and how that relationship and levels of access have been affected by the revised MD Medical Fee Guide introduced on September 1, 2004. The sample contains 38 responses from Maryland based case managers.

This study was performed in order to determine how the payer type affects the Orthopaedic practice expenses. Certain payer types are thought to increase orthopaedic practice expenses by increasing paperwork and other administrative activities.

  Doctors Battle Workers' Comp Insurer
The Injured Workers' Insurance Fund is working to cut health care costs by contracting with Alliance PPO. Through this contract physicians are reimbursed according to PPO rates instead of rates offered by the state Workers' Compensation Commission. This has physicians concerned with the expense associated with treating workers' comp patients.
